Nitrogen Awareness Training - ONLINE

~ Purpose ~

Nitrogen is a colourless, odourless, non-flammable gas that is generally considered non-toxic. However, it can pose serious hazards if handled improperly, particularly because it can displace oxygen in the surrounding atmosphere and create an oxygen-deficient environment without any obvious warning signs. Nitrogen is widely used in offshore operations and various industrial applications, including inerting and purging systems. Understanding its properties, associated hazards, and safe handling requirements is essential to preventing accidents and protecting personnel.

~ Objectives ~

Participants will gain a better understanding of nitrogen, its industrial applications, and the risks associated with its use in both gaseous and liquid forms. The course covers safe handling practices, oxygen-deficiency hazards, risk assessment, appropriate control measures, and procedures for the safe storage and use of nitrogen. Participants will also be introduced to nitrogen production processes and the hazards associated with cryogenic liquid nitrogen, where applicable. Particular emphasis is placed on recognizing potentially dangerous conditions, preventing oxygen-deficient atmospheres, following established safety procedures, and responding appropriately to emergencies involving nitrogen.
