Man Overboard (MOB) - ONLINE

~ Purpose ~

“Man overboard!” is an emergency alert used onboard a vessel to indicate that a crew member or passenger has fallen into the water and requires immediate assistance. A man-overboard situation is a time-critical emergency in which a prompt, coordinated, and effective response is essential to improving the casualty’s chances of survival. This course introduces participants to the established procedures and rescue techniques used to respond to man-overboard incidents, with an emphasis on rapid action, effective communication, and the safe recovery of the casualty.

~ Objectives ~

Participants will gain an understanding of the procedures and techniques used onboard ships to manage man-overboard emergencies. The course covers immediate response actions, alerting and communication procedures, casualty recovery methods, and the roles and responsibilities of personnel involved in the rescue operation. Participants will also learn to recognize hazards associated with man-overboard recovery, assess potential risks, and apply appropriate control measures to protect both the casualty and the rescue team. Particular emphasis is placed on teamwork, situational awareness, and following established emergency procedures to ensure a safe and effective rescue.
