~ Purpose ~
Malaria is a potentially life-threatening infectious disease caused by Plasmodium parasites, which are transmitted to humans through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. The disease can cause serious illness, with symptoms including high fever, chills, headaches, and flu-like symptoms. Without prompt diagnosis and appropriate treatment, malaria can lead to severe complications and may be fatal. This course highlights the importance of malaria awareness, prevention, and early recognition, particularly for personnel travelling to or working in malaria-endemic regions.
~ Objectives ~
Participants will gain an understanding of malaria transmission, common symptoms, associated health risks, and the geographical areas where the disease is prevalent. The course covers practical preventive measures, including mosquito-bite prevention, appropriate use of repellents and protective clothing, and the role of recommended antimalarial medication where applicable. Participants will also learn the importance of seeking prompt medical assessment if malaria is suspected, understanding available treatment options under medical supervision, and following appropriate health guidance before, during, and after travel to affected areas. Particular emphasis is placed on personal responsibility, risk awareness, and early action to help prevent serious illness.
