~ Purpose ~

Maritime transportation involves the carriage of various hazardous and dangerous goods classified under the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code. These substances and materials can pose significant risks to personnel, vessels, cargo, and the marine environment if they are not handled, stored, and transported correctly. Understanding dangerous goods classification, marking and labelling requirements, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), and proper cargo segregation is essential to ensuring safe and compliant maritime operations.

~ Objectives ~

Participants will gain the knowledge required to handle dangerous goods safely onboard vessels in accordance with the applicable requirements of the IMDG Code. The course covers the identification and interpretation of dangerous goods markings and labels, correct cargo loading and stowage procedures, and the application of segregation requirements to prevent hazardous interactions between incompatible substances. Participants will also become familiar with the documentation required for dangerous goods transportation, including Safety Data Sheets (SDS), dangerous goods declarations, and cargo manifests. Particular emphasis is placed on regulatory compliance, risk prevention, and the safe handling and transportation of dangerous goods throughout maritime operations.
