~ Purpose ~

Enclosed and confined spaces, as well as other areas where hazardous gases may be present, require particular attention to safety due to the potentially life-threatening hazards involved. Exposure to dangerous gases can result in serious injury, loss of consciousness, or fatalities, sometimes within seconds. Since some hazardous gases are difficult or impossible to detect using human senses, properly selected and maintained gas detection equipment is essential for identifying atmospheric hazards and helping to ensure safe working conditions.

~ Objectives ~

This course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to use gas detectors correctly before entering enclosed or confined spaces and other areas where hazardous gas exposure may occur. Participants will learn how to perform appropriate atmospheric testing, interpret gas detector readings, and understand the limitations of different detection devices. The course also covers essential maintenance requirements, routine inspection procedures, and calibration intervals to help ensure that gas detection equipment remains accurate, reliable, and ready for use. Particular emphasis is placed on following established safety procedures and verifying that atmospheric conditions are safe before entry.
