Bilge Water and Waste Oil Management - ONLINE

~ Purpose ~

This course is intended for all engine and deck officers involved in the operation of bilge water treatment systems and the management of waste oil onboard vessels. It covers the applicable international regulations, key system components, and proper operational procedures. The operation of main engines, auxiliary machinery, and fuel oil handling systems generates bilge water, sludge, and waste oil, all of which must be managed and disposed of in accordance with established environmental protection requirements.

~ Objectives ~

Participants will gain a thorough understanding of bilge water treatment, waste oil management, and the procedures required to handle these substances safely and in compliance with applicable regulations, including the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL). Particular emphasis is placed on regulatory compliance, proper recordkeeping, and the prevention of illegal discharges. Failure to comply with MARPOL requirements can result in severe consequences, including vessel detention, substantial financial penalties, and potential criminal liability, depending on the nature and severity of the violation.
