~ Purpose ~

The Ballast Water Management Convention or BWM Convention is a treaty adopted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in order to help prevent the spread of potentially harmful aquatic organisms and pathogens in ships’ ballast water. Proper use of ballast water management system will prevent build up and spread of harmful organisms in marine environment.


~ Objectives ~

Participants will obtain knowledge and procedures how to properly record and handle ballast water in order to minimize transfers of harmful organisms in marine environment. Key responsibilities on board and main requirements of ballast water management shall be shown.
